An interview with Natalie, Founder on MS
Let's start Natalie, by asking you about you and your reasons why you started looking into these different techniques and therapies.
I started Revive because I was looking for a natural solution to many different health issues. I have tumefactive multiple sclerosis and wanted to not be reliant on medication, whether that is anti-anxiety meds or sleeping meds.
I just felt that there is so many conditions that we put up with and we live with on a day-to-day basis. Our natural response is to reach for the prescription, ibuprofen, paracetamol, or the cortisol injection. And there are natural solutions to many of these problems.
I think we put up with feeling rubbish for too long and just don't look for anything beyond the norm when there are natural solutions. Revive was set up to heal you naturally through temperature, oxygen, and light, they're powerful mediums and underutilised in modern medicine currently.
How did you go about researching all of this and knowing what to go for?
It was a long process; I'm not going to lie! I knew I had to do some form of cold therapy for my immune system, but I just have no interest in wet cold.
Cold water swimming and cold showers are not an option for me because I just can't bear it. Then I discovered cryotherapy although the temperatures are much more extreme, it is quick!
What's that feeling like when doing Cryotherapy?
It takes your breath away but that's what we're trying to invoke.
It's a fight or flight shock to your immune system. It kicks off all the hormonal and chemical responses that are so powerful for healing in our body.
What would you typically recommend this treatment for?
The benefits are just endless, and now they think that the mental health benefits of cryo are as good as the physical benefits. You get such a burst of dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, norepinephrine.
I have a pretty manky brain because of my MS. By firing off norepinephrine in my brain, which is a powerful neurotransmitter, it clears my brain fog. The high you get from it is just unrivalled… and it lasts.
And has it helped with your condition?
Yes, it most definitely has. I couldn't run the business 7 days a week without my therapies, I'm so passionate about them. It gives me energy and clarity of thought. I just love watching all my clients and the benefits they're getting from it.
One of the words that is used to describe these kinds of alternative treatments is biohacking, isn't it?
It’s all natural. There's no medications or drugs. It's hacking the body's system to make it work better and more effectively.
Tell us about some other treatments that you've got going on at Revive.
We've got red light therapy. That's our other main therapy. The official name for red light therapy is photo biomodulation, which is quite a mouthful, but it's red and near infrared.
I've been doing red light for a couple of years to take out inflammation, I've got a little red-light panel at home, but I knew that whatever therapy therapies I had at Revive, I wanted red light to be part of that, and it is amazing.
There are 50,000 medical studies on red light therapy. It's well known, but it's not publicised. Although It's come into the mainstream a little bit more, possibly through cosmetic use as face masks have become quite popular.
The one we have at Revive is like a solarium, like a sunbed for the whole body. It's the Rolls Royce of red-light beds.
What you see, is very bright red. What you can't see is the near infrared, invisible to the human eye, it penetrates up to 10 centimetres through skin and bone, meaning it gets deep; good for those suffering from arthritis, for example.
My mum uses it for her arthritis in her ankles, but it is also amazing for gut health. People with Crohn’s, Colitis or IBS are reporting real results for healing. It is also amazing for Post Op healing.
Is there a harmful side to infrared?
No. It's all good. Your cells absorb the light energy and convert that to ATP in the mitochondria. So, it's giving the cells the energy that they need to repair and that's why it's so important for recovery, there is no detrimental impact.
