Joe Moriaty’s Journey and Partnership with Revive
Joe Moriaty is a dedicated mental health advocate and the co-host of the popular InsideAMind podcast. His personal journey and professional endeavors have made him a prominent voice in the mental health community, particularly focusing on men's mental health.
Now, as a Revive Ambassador, Joe shares his insights and experiences to help others achieve holistic wellness.
Hey Joe, tell us about your journey in advocating for mental health, particularly for men? What inspired you to start the InsideAMind podcast?
Joe: My journey with mental health started relatively recently. I struggled through my late teens into my mid-twenties with crippling anxiety and depression. In 2018, I had a bit of an awakening and began sharing my story on Facebook, one post at a time. My involvement with InsideAMind started when Tom, my co-host and founder, invited me as his first guest. The episode did well, and our rapport was great, so he invited me to become a co-host. Less than a year later, we celebrated being ranked among the top podcasts globally.
How has your personal experience with mental health shaped your approach to the topics you discuss on your podcast?
Joe: My personal experiences have given me empathy and understanding for our guests. This allows for an openness that creates a safe space for people to be themselves, which is a common theme in our feedback. There aren't many men in the mental health podcasting space, which sets us apart. My role is to create safe spaces for honest conversations, showing that vulnerability is a strength.
What is your view on therapy, and how do you integrate physical and holistic approaches in your work?
Joe: I believe in a combined physical and holistic approach to therapy, catering to the individual’s needs. At Revive, therapies like cryotherapy, 5D massage chairs, and breathing exercises help improve both physical and psychological well-being. These treatments are particularly effective for managing sleep, anxiety, and stress.
Cold water therapy is part of your routine. How has it benefited you, and why do you recommend it?
Joe: I introduced cold water therapy a year ago, and it has significantly improved my sleep and stress levels. Focusing on my breathing during cold water exposure calms my nervous system. It’s not for everyone, but I encourage everyone to try it in some capacity. Revive offers the perfect combination of physical and mental wellness options.
How important is movement for mental health and overall well-being?
Joe: Movement is the most crucial part of taking back your autonomy. I have seen the positive effects of being active on both myself and my clients. Being active has saved my life. It’s about tackling the physical, emotional, and psychological rigors of life through movement.
Why did you choose to partner with Revive Wellness Centre?
Joe: Revive offers treatments that address both the physical and psychological aspects of well-being. Whether it’s the cryogenic chamber, 5D chairs, or breathing exercises, these therapies have profound psychological and physiological benefits. My hope is to shed more light on these benefits and raise awareness of the brand.
What strategies do you use to encourage men to open up about their mental health?
Joe: It’s not easy to get men to talk, and you can’t force it. It’s about creating a safe space and inspiring men to talk more. Showing that it’s not a bad thing to be vulnerable while upholding the values of being strong and bold is crucial. Being open and vulnerable is a strength, not a weakness.
Joe’s dedication to mental health advocacy and his partnership with Revive Wellness Centre exemplify the power of combining physical and mental wellness practices. Through his podcast and public presence, Joe continues to inspire and support men in their mental health journeys, showing that vulnerability and strength can coexist.
